What is a whiteboard video?

Whiteboard videos are created on a white background. They consist of individual images that are "drawn by hand" before the eyes of the viewer. This results in a creative video that gives the viewer the feeling of participating directly and live in the creation process.

The whiteboard video can either be drawn by hand on an actual whiteboard and filmed in the process, or it can be created and animated using the appropriate software. You can have a look at such a whiteboard video animation on our example page.

The whiteboard animation is of course accompanied by a voice-over narration. This brings the video to life - because the narrator tells the story that matches the individual drawn pictures.

Why a whiteboard video?

The whiteboard video style is just one of many in the explainer video sky. So the question arises: Why a video in whiteboard design?

Well, the advantages of such a "hand-drawn" video are many.

On the one hand, the fact that the viewer can follow in real time how a story develops before his eyes is of great benefit. This automatically creates an arc of suspense and makes the viewer want to watch the video to the end.

Secondly, whiteboard videos are kept in a simple and timeless style. This not only means that they can be used for almost any social media platform, but also that the viewer is not inundated with a lot of visual information and can concentrate on understanding the content of the video.

While in usual talking head videos the focus is often on the video and its design, the focus of a whiteboard video is clearly on the content, which is further clarified and supported by the visual video information - almost exactly like when the teacher draws a diagram on the blackboard.

This, by the way, is why whiteboard videos are ideal for explainer videos. It is even rumored among experts that whiteboard videos can have up to 15% higher learning effect and thus have a more effective call-to-action on their viewers than so-called "talking-head videos".

Thus, they are shared three times as often on social media and are generally a popular tool on Instagram, Youtube & Co.

How do I create a whiteboard video?

Producing a whiteboard video animation starts with finding a topic, of course. Once your topic is determined, you can start writing a script. After you've written a script, the content is complete and it's time to make your first attempts at animations. The easiest way to do this is to first sketch out a rough image for each scene in the script. This will later help you match the animation's movements to your voice-over, or vice versa. In professional circles, this step is also called creating a storyboard.

Create a whiteboard video at a reasonable price

Should you want to have a whiteboard video produced, there are a few things you should pay attention to.

Some providers create very inexpensive whiteboard videos from a price of about 500 EUR, but use so-called modular systems.
